  • Fallen Soldiers - Military Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

My girl’s a vegetable She lives in a hospital And I would do anything To keep her alive My girl’s got no arms or legs Fallen Soldiers | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) The U.S. Military's call-and-response chants , known as "jodies," reflect the camaraderie at the core of military life. These rhythmic traditions not only uplift morale but also keep troops moving in perfect sync. Fallen Soldiers is a powerful and emotional cadence that pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who gave their lives for freedom. Through vivid storytelling, it serves as a reminder of the heavy cost of war and the lasting legacy left behind. The project began in 2021 when a live video of my cadence-calling went viral. The clip quickly gained momentum online, attracting attention from several well-known musicians in the military community, including The Marine Rapper, Topher, D.Cure, MJ Hanks, and others. One artist, Mick Blankenship, stood out and took a chance by helping turn this cadence into a polished, radio-ready rock song. His vocals can even be heard in the cadence responses. Fallen Soldiers later broke into the top 10 on the iTunes Rock chart, earning millions of views and streams. None of this would have been possible without the artists who supported and shared the song—or the millions of American patriots who continue to listen and stand behind it. Lyrics Out on the battlefield covered in blood There’s an Airborne Sapper dying in the mud The enemy came closing in until the Soldier fell So with one final magazine he sent ‘em all to hell Fallen Soldiers We stand on your shoulders We carry your legacy ‘Cause no one said that freedom’s free Fallen soldiers We stand on your shoulders I’ll carry your legacy Till some day they remember me Related Products Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View "Fallen Soldiers" Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Out in a foxhole, shaking in his boots There’s a brand new private too afraid to shoot The Soldier to his left jumped on a hand grenade And the gruesome price of war he paid Fallen soldiers We stand on your shoulders We carry your legacy ‘Cause no one said that freedom’s free Fallen soldiers We stand on your shoulders I’ll carry your legacy Till some day they remember me Listen to this cadence: Song Name: Fallen Soldiers Single by Jonathan Michael Fleming DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me. Hey hey, CPT Jack (Hey hey, CPT Jack) Meet me down by the railroad track (Meet me down by the railroad track) With that rifle in my hand I'm gonna be a shootin... Hey, Hey, Captain Jack | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) The US Military has a long-standing, respected tradition of marching in cadence, aka: marching with call-and-response "Jody calls." Through all branches of the military, this staple of training is known to keep troops "in step," or marching/running perfectly in sync. In addition, it is common knowledge: there is nothing more motivating on a long ruck or run, than the voice of a soulful NCO (non-commissioned officer) calling a Jodie. "Captain Jack," or "Whiskey Jack (Depending on your branch) has been a staple in the military for decades. The tune is catchy, and tells the story of... well, a Bible-believing, gun owning, knife-yielding troop. That's about the best explanation I have. You'll just have to listen... Anyway, here are the lyrics to "Captain Jack" as I learned them: Lyrics Hey, Hey, Captain Jack Meet me down by the railroad track With that rifle in my hand I’m gonna be a shooting man The best I can For Uncle Sam Re-up, you’re crazy Re-up, you’re out of your mind Hey, Hey, Captain Jack Meet me down by the railroad track With that Bible in my hand I’m gonna be a preaching man Related Products Quick View New Cadence Merch “What a Way to Die" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View Signed Copies Cadences Vol. 1, 2, 3, & 4 Bundle (CDs) - AUTOGRAPHED Regular Price $64.99 Sale Price $59.99 Listen to this cadence: Song Name: Captain Jack Album Name: Cadences Volume 1 by Jonathan Michael Fleming The best I can For Uncle Sam Re-up, you’re crazy Re-up, you’re out of your mind Hey, Hey Captain Jack Meet me down by the railroad track With the grenade in my hand I’m gonna be a killing man A preaching man A shooting man The best I can For Uncle Sam Re-up, you’re crazy Re-up, you’re out of your mind DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me. • Yellow Ribbon - Military Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

I’m a steam roller baby And I’m rolling down the line I’m a steam roller baby And I’m rolling down the line So you better get out of my way now Before I roll... Yellow Ribbon | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) Marching cadences have been a part of military culture since WW2, and other forms of marching songs since before then. With each cadence set at 120 BPM, it keeps troops marching in step, or in perfect unison together. Through the years, dozens, if not hundreds of cadences, otherwise known as "Jodies" or "Jody calls," have made their rounds through all branches of the US military. A handful though, "Yellow Ribbon" included, are truly staples in the culture. The yellow ribbon referenced in the marching song is a tradition held for military families. Military wives of deployed troops would wear their hair decorated, or a simple ribbon would hang in the window of their home. The joyful tune of this cadence is accompanied by the story of a soldier and his girl - and her dad who is not a fan of their relationship. I've marched to the cadence many times and hope you enjoy it. I record these jodies for a few reasons: First of all, they have been requested by either current or former military. I hope to bring joy, memories, and re-light a fire for these individuals as they're reminded of the best parts of their military service. All "thank you for your service" jokes aside, we all signed up for a reason. Some people just have to be reminded of it. I also hope to continue in raising money for nonprofits that serve our community, specifically our homeless veterans. If you've ever streamed a cadence, bought a TV, got a shirt, etc. THANK YOU! We are making a difference and it wouldn't be possible without your support. -Jonathan Michael Fleming Lyrics Around her head she wore a yellow ribbon She wore it in the springtime in the early month of may And if you asked her why the heck she wore it She wore it for that soldier who was far, far away Far away Far away She wore it for that soldier who was far, far away Around the block, she pushed a baby carriage She pushed it in the springtime in the early month of May And if you asked her why the heck she pushed it She pushed it for that soldier who was far, far away Related Products Quick View New Cadence Merch “What a Way to Die" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View Signed Copies Cadences Vol. 1, 2, 3, & 4 Bundle (CDs) - AUTOGRAPHED Regular Price $64.99 Sale Price $59.99 Far away Far away She pushed it for that soldier who was far, far away Behind the door her Daddy kept a shotgun He kept it in the springtime in the early month of May And if you asked him why the heck he kept it He kept it for that soldier, the one who got away Far away Far away He kept it for that soldier who was far, far away Listen to this cadence: Song Name: Yellow Ribbon Album Name: Cadences Volume 1 by Jonathan Michael Fleming DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me. • C-130 (Army) - Military Cadence Lyrics

C-130 rolling down the strip Airborne ranger gonna take a little trip We gon’ stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door We gon’ jump right up, then count to four  My main don’t open, use my reserve Reserve don’t open, I lose my nerve ‘Cause I’m Airborne  Alright I can ride I can fly All day All night C-130 | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) To the US Military, the long-standing tradition of singing call-and-response songs while marching, rucking, and running is a familiar sound. Originating with a young Soldier, Private Willie Lee Duckworth in 1944, the "Jodies," "Jody calls," or "cadences" as they are often called have become ingrained into military culture. Often taking on an arguably offensive tone, many of these cadences are full of violence, war crimes, and worse. All of this, to harden the minds of young troops who've not experienced the harshness of war. On the less objectionable side, there are branch-specific cadences used to prop up the organization, unit, school, etc. C-130 is one such example, telling a first-person story from the perspective of a paratrooper. The "Airborne Ranger" lives in Army tradition as the man's man. This is the guy we sing about, who always seems to save the day. Lyrics Easy run Two miles Have some fun Three miles Gotta run Four miles In the sun Five miles Gonna be Motivated Dedicated Hollywood Looking good Gonna jump Gonna run PT, PT Too good I can do it I can run All day All night Meant to be, Fit to fight Drivin on Airborne (3x) C-130 rolling down the strip Airborne ranger gonna take a little trip We gon’ stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door We gon’ jump right up, then count to four My main don’t open, use my reserve Reserve don’t open, I lose my nerve ‘Cause I’m Airborne Alright I can ride I can fly All day All night Related Products Quick View Signed Copies Cadences Vol. 1, 2, 3, & 4 Bundle (CDs) - AUTOGRAPHED Regular Price $64.99 Sale Price $59.99 Quick View "Fallen Soldiers" Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View JMF "Dad Hat" - Camo Pattern with JMF USA Flag Patch Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Gun/Bear Merch Right to "Bear" Arms - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View New Gun/Bear Merch Right to "Bear" Arms - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View "1776 Problems" - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View New Patriotic Merch "1776 Problems" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch “I Left My Home" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch “What a Way to Die" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View "Keep Marching" - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $29.99 Sale Price $27.49 Quick View New Cadence Merch "Sound Off" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch "When My Granny Was 91" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Granny Merch "When My Granny Was 91" - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View New Merch "Stars Spangled and Enemies Mangled" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch "When I Was 1" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Listen to this cadence: Song Name: C-130 Album Name: Cadences Volume 2 by Jonathan Michael Fleming DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me. • War With a Soldier - Army Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

No limit to the limit, I thought I told ya You don’t wanna go to war with a soldier OH, AH I wanna slap somebody No limit to the limit, I thought I told ya... War With a Soldier | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) The US military has been known for their tradition of singing while marching since WW2. Originating with the Army in 1944, the custom of calling cadence, or singing "jodies" has been a staple in training, PT, and drill in all branches. The style came from African work songs, introduced by PVT Willie Lee Duckworth, a black soldier from Georgia who used the call-and-response style to motivate his fellow-soldiers after long days of work. Through the years, cadences have evolved to include a shocking and sometimes offensive tone. The violent nature of some cadences has been used to mentally prepare new trainees for the realities of their work. The following cadence "War With a Soldier" boasts about the reasons why soldiers should not be tested. Lyrics No limit to the limit, I thought I told ya You don’t wanna go to war with a soldier Ooh, ah, I wanna kill somebody Ooh, ah, I wanna bury their body Motivated, dedicated, I thought I told ya You don’t wanna go to war with a soldier No limit to the limit, I thought I told ya You don’t wanna go to war with a soldier Ooh, ah, I wanna slap somebody No limit to the limit, I thought I told ya You don’t wanna go to war with a solider Ooh, ah, I wanna hurt somebody Ooh, ah, I wanna leave them bloody Related Products Quick View Signed Copies Cadences Vol. 1, 2, 3, & 4 Bundle (CDs) - AUTOGRAPHED Regular Price $64.99 Sale Price $59.99 Quick View "Fallen Soldiers" Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View JMF "Dad Hat" - Camo Pattern with JMF USA Flag Patch Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Gun/Bear Merch Right to "Bear" Arms - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View New Gun/Bear Merch Right to "Bear" Arms - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View "1776 Problems" - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View New Patriotic Merch "1776 Problems" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch “I Left My Home" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch “What a Way to Die" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View "Keep Marching" - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $29.99 Sale Price $27.49 Quick View New Cadence Merch "Sound Off" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch "When My Granny Was 91" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Granny Merch "When My Granny Was 91" - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View New Merch "Stars Spangled and Enemies Mangled" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch "When I Was 1" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Listen to this cadence: Song Name: War With a Soldier Album Name: Cadences Volume 2 by Jonathan Michael Fleming DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me. • My Girl's a Vegetable - Military Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

My girl’s a vegetable She lives in a hospital And I would do anything To keep her alive My girl’s got no arms or legs My Girl’s a Vegetable | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) In the U.S. Military, "Jodies" are call-and-response chants that serve as more than just a rhythm. They bring soldiers together, build morale, and highlight the strong traditions that define military life. My Girl's a Vegetable is commonly chanted during marches. Obviously satire, the cadence utilizes dark humor and some very exaggerated, grim imagery to tell a fictional story about a Soldier's girlfriend who is in a vegetative state. Honestly, I have no further words for this one… You’ll have to hear it to believe it. Lyrics My girl’s a vegetable She lives in a hospital And I would do anything To keep her alive My girl’s got no arms or legs Just a couple wooden pegs And I would do anything To keep her alive My girl’s got color TV It’s called an EKG And I would do anything To keep her alive Related Products Quick View Signed Copies Cadences Vol. 1, 2, 3, & 4 Bundle (CDs) - AUTOGRAPHED Regular Price $64.99 Sale Price $59.99 Quick View "Fallen Soldiers" Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View JMF "Dad Hat" - Camo Pattern with JMF USA Flag Patch Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Gun/Bear Merch Right to "Bear" Arms - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View New Gun/Bear Merch Right to "Bear" Arms - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View "1776 Problems" - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View New Patriotic Merch "1776 Problems" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch “I Left My Home" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch “What a Way to Die" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View "Keep Marching" - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $29.99 Sale Price $27.49 Quick View New Cadence Merch "Sound Off" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch "When My Granny Was 91" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Granny Merch "When My Granny Was 91" - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View New Merch "Stars Spangled and Enemies Mangled" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch "When I Was 1" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Listen to this cadence: Song Name: My Girl's A Vegetable Album Name: Cadences Volume 4 by Jonathan Michael Fleming Sometimes I like to joke Pull the plug and watch her choke And I would do anything To keep her alive Each time she breaths in air She sounds like Darth Vader But I would do anything To keep her alive She prefers pureed food Sucks it down with a plastic tube But I would do anything To keep her alive DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me. • About JMF | Jonathan Michael Fle

Hello If you're reading this, thank you! I mean that - the fact that the military community has fully embraced my mission with genuine curiosity and support is an encouragement to me. I receive many messages, comments, emails, etc. asking for a greater context as to what led me to this project. I'd like to answer some of my most asked questions and hopefully add perspective to the importance of this history-preservation project. My Story Let me make one thing clear, on top of the disclaimer at the bottom of the page: when I reference my military service, it is purely for context. Please do not make any purchases, comments, views, or show any other type of support because of my military service. If you do those things, let it be because you support the mission behind my work, and truly enjoy my content! • Fallen Soldiers (Rock Version) - Military Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

My girl’s a vegetable She lives in a hospital And I would do anything To keep her alive My girl’s got no arms or legs Fallen Soldiers (Rock Version) | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) "Jodies," the U.S. Military’s call-and-response chants, are a powerful tradition . They not only keep troops in sync but also boost morale and embody the spirit of camaraderie essential to military life. I wrote this cadence back in 2021 when a live video of my cadence-calling went viral. This jody took the internet by storm and quickly garnered the attention of several big-name musicians in the military space like The Marine Rapper, Topher, D.Cure, MJ Hanks, and more. One individual in particular stood out to me, and was willing to put his reputation as an artist on the line to help me produce and record Fallen Soldiers, now as a radio-ready rock song. His name is Mick Blankenship, and you can even hear his vocals in the cadence ‘response.’ Fallen Soldiers ultimately made the top 10 iTunes Rock chart and received millions of views and streams. This was only made possible because of artists who believed in me and shared my song, along with the millions of American patriots who have listened and supported the song since. Lyrics Out on the battlefield covered in blood There’s an Airborne Sapper dying in the mud The enemy came closing in until the Soldier fell So with one final magazine he sent ‘em all to hell Fallen Soldiers We stand on your shoulders We carry your legacy ‘Cause no one said that freedom’s free Fallen soldiers We stand on your shoulders I’ll carry your legacy Till some day they remember me Out in a foxhole, shaking in his boots There’s a brand new private too afraid to shoot The Soldier to his left jumped on a hand grenade And the gruesome price of war he paid Related Products Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View "Fallen Soldiers" Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Listen to this cadence: Song Name: Fallen Soldiers (Rock Version) Single by Jonathan Michael Fleming Fallen soldiers We stand on your shoulders We carry your legacy ‘Cause no one said that freedom’s free Fallen soldiers We stand on your shoulders I’ll carry your legacy Till some day they remember me Fallen soldiers We stand on your shoulders We carry your legacy ‘Cause no one said that freedom’s free Fallen soldiers We stand on your shoulders I’ll carry your legacy Till some day they remember me DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me. • Steam Roller (Navy) - Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

I’m a steam roller baby Just a’ rolling down the line I’m a steam roller baby Just a’rolling down the line So you better get out of my way now Before I roll all over you It takes a little, a little, a little rock and roll It’s the kind that, the kind that, the kind that soothes your soul Cause I’m a U.S. Navy Sailor Just’a marching down the line I’m... Steam Roller (Navy Version) | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) Introducing cadence into your workout routine can add a new level of motivation and discipline. Cadence, also known as "Jody calls," is a long-standing tradition in the US Military that keeps troops marching and running in perfect sync (AKA in-step). Each marching cadence is set at a perfect 120 BPM, and each running cadence at 180 BPM. This allows troops to keep pace, and the soulful voice of a soldier on these long rucks or runs just gives you a burst of energy you didn't know was possible. The Steam Roller cadence is a staple in the Navy community. The cadence has gone viral several times, both on my account and others where NCOs called their heart out and even picked up remixes from civilian artists. Here it is: "Steam Roller (Navy Version) Lyrics I’m a steam roller baby Just a’ rolling down the line I’m a steam roller baby Just a’rolling down the line So you better get out of my way now Before I roll all over you It takes a little, a little, a little rock and roll It’s the kind that, the kind that, the kind that soothes your soul Related Products Quick View New Cadence Merch “What a Way to Die" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View Signed Copies Cadences Vol. 1, 2, 3, & 4 Bundle (CDs) - AUTOGRAPHED Regular Price $64.99 Sale Price $59.99 Cause I’m a U.S. Navy Sailor Just’a marching down the line I’m a U.S. Navy Sailor Just’a marching down the line So you better get out of my way now Before I march all over you Before I roll all over you It takes a little, a little, a little rock and roll It’s the kind that, the kind that, the kind that soothes your soul ‘Cause I’m a U.S. Navy Sailor I’m a steam roller baby And I’m rolling down the line Listen to this cadence: Song Name: Steam Roller (Navy Version) Album Name: Cadences Volume 1 by Jonathan Michael Fleming DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me.
