  • I Left My Home - Cadence Lyrics (Army) | Jonathan Michael Fleming

Your daddy was home when you left Your momma was home when you left Your sister was home when you left Your brother was home when you left The dog was home when you left The cat was home when you left The fish was home when you left Your daddy, your momma, your sister, your brother The dog, the cat, the fish was home when you left. And that’s the re... I Left My Home | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) The US Military has a long-standing, respected tradition of marching in cadence, aka: with call-and-response "Jody calls." Through all branches of the military, this staple of training is known to keep troops "in step," or marching/running perfectly in sync. In addition, it is common knowledge: there is nothing more motivating on a long ruck or run, than the voice of a soulful NCO (non-commissioned officer) calling a Jodie. "I Left My Home" has gone viral more than once - First catching the attention of the civilian world in 2021, when Drill Sergeant DePalo was filmed marching a basic training platoon to the cadence. Funny enough, this all happened while I was still in Basic Training - It was a strange feeling, coming home to my civilian family who evidently learned the same new song I did. Some of my now good friends, MJ Hanks, The Marine Rapper, and Topher also remixed the cadence, topping the Billboard charts and making history. Once I saw what recorded cadence did both for the veteran community and the "outside world," I made it a mission to record them. My studio recording of this cadence has gone insanely viral, with hundreds of millions of views across social media. A fellow Soldier, Chelse Hill and I even teamed up to make a rock remix in honor of one of our fallen. That song has garnered millions of views/streams and has made our hero's name, SFC Ricardo Young, well known for his bravery and sacrifice. Since all this craziness, all the recorded cadences have served as a source of motivation, and a reminder of the "good old days" to many veterans, and I'm thankful to have been able to provide this resource. Military schools are now pointing people in the direction of my albums to learn cadences, and through the social media side of things, we have been able to, as a community, use my platform to raise funds for various veteran-focused nonprofits. I can't thank you enough! All that being said, here are the lyrics to "I Left My Home" (Army Cadence): Lyrics Lyrics Your daddy was home when you left (You're right!) Come On Over | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) Since World War II, marching and running cadences have been a part of military culture. Depending on the branch and unit, they may also be called "Jodies" or "Jody calls." These cadences, set at 120 BPM, help troops stay "in step," meaining they are to march in perfect unison. Throughout the years, countless cadences, also known as "Jodies" or "Jody calls," have been used across all branches of the US military. However, only a few have made a permanent mark across the US Military like "Come On Over." Cadences are often shocking, using disturbing or even offensive imagery to paint a picture of war. The dark sense of humor, often called "gallows humor" or "foxhole humor." In this particular cadence, the soldier brags on the line of insurgents he is about to execute - fire squad-style. Many cadences like this seem to use the Geneva Convention as a good source of musical inspiration. Here it is: "Come On Over" (Army Cadence) Lyrics Come on over The war’s not over So put your weapon next to mine And we’ll shoot ‘em all down the line I shot insurgent one Did that one just for fun So put your weapon next to mine And we’ll shoot ‘em all down the line Come on over The war’s not over So put your weapon next to mine And we’ll shoot ‘em all down the line Related Products Quick View Signed Copies Cadences Vol. 1, 2, 3, & 4 Bundle (CDs) - AUTOGRAPHED Regular Price $64.99 Sale Price $59.99 Quick View "Fallen Soldiers" Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch “What a Way to Die" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View JMF "Dad Hat" - Camo Pattern with JMF USA Flag Patch Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch “I Left My Home" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View Cadences Volume 1 (CD) Regular Price $29.99 Sale Price $24.99 Quick View New Gun/Bear Merch Right to "Bear" Arms - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View Cadences Volume 4 (CD) Regular Price $29.99 Sale Price $24.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch "When My Granny Was 91" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Patriotic Merch "1776 Problems" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Gun/Bear Merch Right to "Bear" Arms - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View "Keep Marching" - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $29.99 Sale Price $27.49 Quick View New Cadence Merch "Sound Off" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Cadence Merch "When I Was 1" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View Cadences Volume 3 (CD) Regular Price $29.99 Sale Price $24.99 Listen to this cadence: Song Name: Come On Over Album Name: Cadences Volume 1 by Jonathan Michael Fleming I shot insurgent two Did that one just for you So put your weapon next to mine And we’ll shoot ‘em all down the line I shot insurgent three Did that one just for me So put your weapon next to mine And we’ll shoot ‘em all down the line Come on over The war’s not over So put your weapon next to mine And we’ll shoot ‘em all down the line DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me. You Won't Believe What I've Seen | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) Military culture has been incorporating marching cadences since World War II, and earlier with other forms of marching songs. These cadences, set at 120 BPM, help keep troops marching in perfect unison. Over the years, countless cadences, also known as "Jodies" or "Jody calls," have been used across all branches of the US military. However, only a few, such as "You Won't Believe What I've Seen" left such a lasting impact on me. This particular cadence was introduced to me by a particularly war-hardened NCO. I wish I could tell you I heard it first in the cold of night, on a long ruck march when I nearly had nothing left. However, he called the cadence at 1700 hours, in the sunlight, after a very inconsequential day of monotonous heavy equipment training. Even in these conditions, knowing the background of the Soldier, his soulful cry of the cadence sent chills down my arm. The cadence is simple: The soldier simply lists all the things he's witnessed and experienced that left a lasting impact on him. Evident by the eerie melody, the unknown writer of this cadence was sure that he would never be the same upon returning home. Alright, here it is: "You Won't Believe What I've Seen." • Blood Upon The Risers - Military Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright He packed up his equipment and made sure his pack was tight He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar And he ain’t gonna jump no more Blood Upon The Risers | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) Since WWII, the U.S. Military has used cadences - Drill Sergeant-led call-and-response songs that coordinate troops' movements at 120 BPM for marching and 180 BPM for running. A darkly humorous ballad that recounts a paratrooper’s tragic jump gone wrong. With vivid imagery and dramatic verses, it highlights the dangers of airborne training. Its blend of humor and tragedy makes it a memorable and cautionary tale. Lyrics He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright He packed up his equipment and made sure his pack was tight He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar And he ain’t gonna jump no more (Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! He ain’t gonna jump no more!) “Is everybody happy?” cried the Sergeant looking up Our hero answered bravely, “yes!” and then they stood him up He leaped right out into the blast, his static line unhooked He ain’t gonna jump no more (Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! He ain’t gonna jump no more!) He counted long, he counted loud, he waited for the shock He felt the wind, he felt that clouds, he felt the awful drop He jerked his cord, the silk spilt out and wrapped around his legs And he ain’t gonna jump no more (Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! He ain’t gonna jump no more!) The risers wrapped around his neck, connectors cracked his dome The lines were snarled and tied in knots around his skinny bones The canopy became his shroud, he hurtled to the ground He ain’t gonna jump no more (Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! He ain’t gonna jump no more!) The ambulance was on the spot, the jeeps were running wild The medics jumped and screamed with glee, they rolled their sleeves and smiled For it had been a week or more since last a chute had failed He ain’t gonna jump no more (Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! Gory, gory what a hell of a way to die! He ain’t gonna jump no more!) • Mama Told Johnny - Military Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

Mama Told Johnny | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) The United States Military has a respected tradition of marching to call-and-response songs, known as cadences or Jodies, led by a troop leader, Drill Sergeant/Instructor, etc. Originating with PVT Willie Lee Duckworth in World War II, this practice is essential in bootcamps, leadership schools, and physical training. With tempos of 120 BPM for marches and 180 BPM for runs, cadences provide a steady rhythm that fosters unit cohesion, boosts morale and helps troops stay in sync while managing their breathing. Throughout the years, cadences have evolved to incorporate a more striking and, at times, provocative tone. The intense nature of some cadences serves to mentally prepare new recruits for the challenges they will face in their duties and potentially in combat. The cadence "Mama Told Johnny" focuses on the story of Johnny, who enlisted against his mother's will, ultimately leaving his wife and son a Gold Star family. Lyrics (Men at war!) x2 (Late at night when you’re sleepin’) (The enemy’s a creepin’ all around) (Men at war!) • Killing The Baby Seals - Military Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

My girl’s a vegetable She lives in a hospital And I would do anything To keep her alive My girl’s got no arms or legs Killing the Baby Seals | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) The U.S. Military’s "Jodies" are more than chants—they create rhythm, build unity, and strengthen morale, reflecting the teamwork and tradition at the heart of military life . Killing the Baby Seals reflects a blend of rhythm, satire, and exaggerated storytelling to entertain service members while maintaining synchronized movement. The lyrics tell a fictional tale of a Soldier who resorts to hunting baby seals as his livelihood. The chant incorporates vivid imagery and humor that might be seen as dark or absurd (aka perfect for the military). Mama, Mama Can't You See | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) The US Military has a long-standing, respected tradition of marching in cadence, aka: with call-and-response "Jody calls." Through all branches of the military, this staple of training is known to keep troops "in step," or marching/running perfectly in sync. In addition, it is common knowledge: there is nothing more motivating on a long ruck or run, than the voice of a soulful NCO (non-commissioned officer) calling a Jodie. While this cadence, "Mama Mama Can't You See" takes many different forms, it is best known within the Army as an eerie, dark marching cadence. This jody call tells the story of a soldier who was forever changed by his experiences. The lyrics below are pretty basic, but each unit, or cadence caller for that matter put their own spin on the cadence to tell their own stories: many times including combat, pain, loss, etc. Here it is: "Mama, Mama, Can't You See Lyrics Lyrics Mama, mama, can’t you see What the army’s done to me Mama, mama, can’t you see What the army’s done to me Put me on a silver jet That’s a ride I won’t forget Put me on a silver jet That’s a ride I won’t forget Whoa-oh Whoa-oh yeah Oh Lord, I wanna go But they won’t let me go…Home Whoa-oh yeah Put me in a barber’s chair Spun me ‘round, I had no hair Set me in a barber’s chair Spun me ‘round, I had no hair Related Products Quick View JMF "Dad Hat" - Camo Pattern with JMF USA Flag Patch Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View "1776 Problems" - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View Signed Copies Cadences Vol. 1, 2, 3, & 4 Bundle (CDs) - AUTOGRAPHED Regular Price $64.99 Sale Price $59.99 Quick View New Patriotic Merch "1776 Problems" - Soft Blend Cotton T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Fallen Soldiers Merch Fallen Soldiers - JMF Hooded Sweatshirt Regular Price $59.99 Sale Price $54.99 Quick View "Keep Marching" - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $29.99 Sale Price $27.49 Quick View "Fallen Soldiers" Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Quick View New Gun/Bear Merch Right to "Bear" Arms - Blended T-Shirt - JMF Regular Price $34.99 Sale Price $29.99 Whoa-oh Whoa-oh, yeah Oh Lord, I wanna go But they won’t let me go…Home Whoa-oh, yeah I used to date a beauty queen Now I date my M-16 I sued to date a beauty queen Now I date my M-16 Whoa-oh Whoa-oh, yeah Oh Lord, I wanna go But they, won’t let me go…home Whoa-oh, yeah Mama, mama, can’t you see What the army’s done to me Mama, mama, can’t you see What the army’s done to me Listen to this cadence: Song Name: Mama, Mama Can't You See Album Name: Cadences Volume 1 by Jonathan Michael Fleming DISCLAIMERS: The lyrics and music to the above cadence are not original to me. • Steam Roller (Navy) - Cadence Lyrics | Jonathan Michael Fleming

I’m a steam roller baby Just a’ rolling down the line I’m a steam roller baby Just a’rolling down the line So you better get out of my way now Before I roll all over you It takes a little, a little, a little rock and roll It’s the kind that, the kind that, the kind that soothes your soul Cause I’m a U.S. Navy Sailor Just’a marching down the line I’m... Steam Roller (Navy Version) | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) Introducing cadence into your workout routine can add a new level of motivation and discipline. Cadence, also known as "Jody calls," is a long-standing tradition in the US Military that keeps troops marching and running in perfect sync (AKA in-step). Each marching cadence is set at a perfect 120 BPM, and each running cadence at 180 BPM. This allows troops to keep pace, and the soulful voice of a soldier on these long rucks or runs just gives you a burst of energy you didn't know was possible. The Steam Roller cadence is a staple in the Navy community. The cadence has gone viral several times, both on my account and others where NCOs called their heart out and even picked up remixes from civilian artists. • Interlude ("Shoot Him in the Head") - Military Cadence Lyrics

Left, go left (Hey!) Go left (Hey!) Go let (Hey!) Left, right, your left (You go it) Left, right, your left (You got it) Left, right, go left Drill Sergeant getting busy one time Go left, right, go left (Two time, three time) (Pump, pump, pump, pump it up) Give it up two, three, four (Shoot him in the head, shoot him in the head, kill him!) Give it up, tow, three, four (You got to) Re-load, and shoot him again Left, your left (Hey!) Interlude ("Shoot Him in the Head") | Military Cadence (Lyrics & History) (Skip to lyrics) The US Military features a time-honored tradition of call-and-response songs used during marching, rucking, and running, a sound that many recognize. This practice initiated by Private Willie Lee Duckworth in 1944, resulted in the development of "Jodies," "Jody calls," or "cadences," which have become a fundamental aspect of military culture. Although some cadences may have a controversial tone, often touching on themes of violence and war, they help to prepare young soldiers for the challenges they will face in combat. This cadence, "Interlude" as I call it, has been a staple for generations. It is less lyrical, and not meant to tell a story, as many cadences are. This cadence is more rhythmic in nature, focusing more on the left foot-right foot commands. The lyrics, "shoot him in the head, kill him!" live rent free in the heads of veterans everywhere.
