My Girl’s a Vegetable | Military Cadence
(Lyrics & History)
In the U.S. Military, "Jodies" are call-and-response chants that serve as more than just a rhythm. They bring soldiers together, build morale, and highlight the strong traditions that define military life.
My Girl's a Vegetable is commonly chanted during marches. Obviously satire, the cadence utilizes dark humor and some very exaggerated, grim imagery to tell a fictional story about a Soldier's girlfriend who is in a vegetative state.
Honestly, I have no further words for this one… You’ll have to hear it to believe it.
Lyrics
My girl’s a vegetable
She lives in a hospital
And I would do anything
To keep her alive
My girl’s got no arms or legs
Just a couple wooden pegs
And I would do anything
To keep her alive
My girl’s got color TV
It’s called an EKG
And I would do anything
To keep her alive

Sometimes I like to joke
Pull the plug and watch her choke
And I would do anything
To keep her alive
Each time she breaths in air
She sounds like Darth Vader
But I would do anything
To keep her alive
She prefers pureed food
Sucks it down with a plastic tube
But I would do anything
To keep her alive
